Sands
We stock 5 different types of Sand in all 3 of our branches.
These all have different uses and different qualities.
East Coast Sand or Play sand
This is the Ministry of Education approved sand for use in School and Kindergarten Sand Pits. It is a clean White Sand mined off shore, North of Auckland. Ideal for the kids to build sandcastles and construct roadways in sand pits.
No1 Sand
Used in the paving and building industry to lay pavers and to mix with cement to make Mortar, which is used for haunching around paved areas. It is fresh water sand from Tuakau, South of Auckland near the Waikato River. The ‘No1’ relates to sizing being 1mm down.
No3 Sand
This sand can be used for bedding and to improve drainage in Soils and Planting Media. Adding this Sand, along with Compost, Gypsum and Lime to clay soils helps to improve Auckland’s typically Clay soils.
Ours schools also use No 3 Sand for their Long jump pits. Again it is fresh water sand from the Tuakau region. Graded 3mm and down.
Blocklayers Sand
This is mined Sand from the Waikato. It is a very fine sand used for (as the name suggests) mixing with cement and laying Blocks and Bricks. Cream in colour and suitable also for sandpits.
Woodhill /Black Sand
This is again a very fine sand, It is a cost effective way to bulk up areas that need improved drainage.
Or sometimes a building site can be too wet to work on, however by bringing in a load of this sand and laying it means you can get back to work and complete your project.
Sand lawns can be laid using this sand With irrigation and fertilizer it makes for an extremely clean growing medium for seeded, hydro-seeded or turf lawns.
